Lady SeaWolves Sweep Warriors With 30-Run Day

BROCKTON, Mass. — The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team swept Massasoit Community College in a non-conference doubleheader on Monday, April 17, both by the eight-run rule to extend its winning streak to five games.

Game 1: W, 9-1 (6 Innings)

Box Score

First-year Sarah Guimond (East Waterboro, Maine) went the distance for the Lady SeaWolves. The right-hander threw six complete innings, allowed one run, none earned, and struck out eight on her way to her Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC)-best fifth victory of the season.

Six players recorded multi-hit games for SMCC. First-year Kaylah Abdul (South Berwick, Maine) went 2-4 from the dish and smacked her third homerun of the season, collecting four RBI's in the contest.

Recording 15 total hits, 10 better than their counterpart, the Lady SeaWolves scored one in the top-half of the second, five in the fifth, and three more in the sixth inning to put the Warriors away early. Massasoit's Shelby Ross was taxed with the loss.

Game 2: W, 21-2 (5 Innings)

Box Score

First-year Kristen Mackenzie (Seabrook, N.H.) earned the start in the circle in the second game of the double dip. Despite being awarded plenty of run support, Mackenzie put together a dominant performance allowing just one earned run over four hits.

The Lady SeaWolves flexed their muscles to score a season-best 21 runs spanning 30 hits in just five innings of play. First-year Emma Burns (Berwick, Maine) and sophomore Elle Burbank (Bethel, Maine) were both a perfect 5-5 at the plate, combining for 10 runs scored. Abdul collected five RBI's, notching her 30th of the season, more than double any YSCC player.

SMCC pushed across three runs or more in each of the five innings as Mackenzie picked up her third win of the season.

In a post-game interview, Head Coach Ray Magnant commented, "Just a great overall team effort today. I'm extremely pleased with how we are coming into form and excited to carry this momentum into conference play this weekend."

The Lady SeaWolves improve to 8-3 overall and remain 3-1 in conference play. Massasoit stands 2-6 on the season.

SMCC will continue its road slate with another YSCC doubleheader against the 3-4 Lady Lynx of New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) on Friday, April 21. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in Concord, N.H.
