SMCC's Abdul, Guimond Honored As USCAA National Players of the Week

NORFOLK, Va.(SMCC) — First-years Kaylah Abdul (South Berwick, Maine) and Sarah Guimond (East Waterboro, Maine) were named United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Player and Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday, April 27.

In six games last week, Abdul hit a whopping .500 from the dish (12-24). Eight of her 12 hits were for extra bases including two homeruns. The shortstop scored seven runs and notched 15 RBI's for the Lady SeaWolves. Abdul leads the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) in all major offensive categories—batting average (.569), homeruns (4), and RBI's (36).

Guimond tossed three complete game victories a week ago. The right-hander allowed no earned runs and notched 23 strikeouts over 20 innings of work. The right-hander leads the YSCC in wins (7) and strikeouts (59), and ranks second in ERA (3.22).

Both players led their team to a 5-1 record, featuring wins over Massasoit Community College, New Hampshire Technical Institute, and Dean College.
