USCAA Announces All-American Awards

Uniontown, PA- The 2015 USCAA Men’s Basketball Division II All-American awards were revealed on Tuesday at Nemacolin Woodslands Resort in Uniontown, PA. 8 YSCC players were honored by being named to one of three All-American teams with four being named to the first team.

FIRST TEAM

Brandon Rodgers (University of Maine-Augusta)

  • 2015 YSCC First Team All-Conference
  • 2014-2015 YSCC Player of the Week 3X
  • Averaged 22.8 points per game third in the Nation
  • Ranks first in the Nation for Offensive, Total, and Rebounds per game at 13.8
  • Ranks Second in the Nation for Defensive Rebounds
  • Ranks first in the Nation for Free Throws Made

Yordy Tavarez (NHTI)

  • 2015 YSCC First Team All-Conference
  • 2014-2015 YSCC Player of the Week 3X
  • Led NHTI in points per game at 21.9
  • Ranks sixth in the nation and third in the YSCC for points per game
  • 80.2 free throw percentage 11th in the Nation

Jamal Hughes (Vermont Tech)

  • 2015 YSCC First Team All-Conference
  • 2015 YSCC Player of the Year
  • Led VTC in points per game at 19.0
  • Eight Double-Double Games for the 2014-2015 Season
  • Ranked fourth in the nation with Free Throws made

Atencio Martin (Southern Maine CC)

  • 2015 YSCC First Team All-Conference
  • Leads team with  points per game at 14.1
  • Five Double-Double Games for the 2014-2015 Season

SECOND TEAM

Keith Chesley (University of Maine-Augusta)

  • 2015 YSCC Second Team All-Conference
  • 2014-2015 YSCC Player of the Week 3X
  • Ranked first in the Nation in points per game (24.1) and Free Throw percentage 86.9%
  • Now holds the UMA Record for most points in a season at 674

Dre Anderson (College of St. Joseph’s)

  • 2015 YSCC First Team All-Conference
  • Leads his team in points per game with 16.9
  • Ranked sixth in the nation for three points made

HONORABLE METION

Kasheam Alston (College of St. Joseph’s)

  • Ranked fourth in the nation in Offensive rebounds and 10th in total rebounds  
  • Averages 14.6 point per game

Floyd Higgins (University of Maine-Machias)

  • 2015 YSCC Second Team All-Conference
  • Leads UMM in Rebounds with 5.5 per game
  • Ranked 16th in the Nation in field goal percentage with 55.5

In addition to the USCAA All-American Awards being announced, the USCAA has introduced three new awards for each sport Student-Athlete of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Player of the Year. In its inaugural year Junior Keith Chesley from the University of Maine-Augusta was named Student Athlete of the Year. This award goes to the student athlete who has made significant contributions not only on the court but in their community as well.

Chesley coaches an AAU team for the Gilman Street Basketball Club and spends his free time officiating for the Lawrence youth basketball program. He also volunteers his time with Pine Tree Camp, in a kindergarten Class and can be found a s a mentor in his mother’s special education class. Chesley can also be found helping out his former team at practices or at games doing the scorebooks for Lawrence High School.

His volunteer work continues in the UMA community as well. Chesley has participated and helped organized many events such as food drives and blood drives. He has been awarded many academic honors at UMA including dean’s list, the Rising Scholar Award, and the C. Richard Haskell Memorial Scholarship. Chesley is a two-time USCAA Academic All American basketball player at UMA.
